With all the hard and dirty work done, it’s time for the fun part: Decorating and furnishing our baby room. We found this amazing artist JoanOfArts who creates custom murals. As she is from the Netherlands, she only accepts jobs in Belgium during a 2 weeks time slot every summer. Knowing she was very popular, we immediately sent her a message and were able to reserve her last available slot for this year.
Furniture
Over time, we visited several baby fairs and shops to find the perfect furniture and decided to purchase a standard set: Crib, dresser with changing table and closet at one of our local shops. Until we saw the Leander “growing” bed, which transforms from a baby crib to a single bed in several stages.
The only problem was that it is nearly impossible to find a complete room in stores as they don’t make the closet anymore. So we decided to look online for a used set.
Someone a few kilometers from where we live was selling the bed. For the dresser we had to go to Den Hague and we picked up the closet in Paris making this an international room.
It’s a good thing I still had my station wagon which had room to fit a boat ;-).
We THOROUGHLY cleaned everything, bought a set of new original door handles, ordered a brand new Aerosleep safety mattress with custom protector and were ready to put it all together in the room.
Mural
Fast forward a few months and the day finally arrived for Joan to put some magic to it all. She had put our feedback into some sketches which made it easy for us to visualize the end result. We picked a theme and some drawings that matched our decorating and let her do her magic.
Joan was very open to input and added extra items on request during the day.
It is still hard to believe she was able to do all of this in just 1 day. We absolutely love our mural and highly recommend Joan. Big shout out!!!
