Daddy Aaron

This picture is me, daddy Aaron at age 3. I began my life in South Africa where I was born in 1979. In the late 80’s we moved to Belgium and I have lived here ever since.

My relatives live all over the world, South Africa, Ireland, Australia and of course Belgium. This is one of the main reasons why our blog is written in English and not Dutch.

I was your regular kid, loved playing outside, had a lot of friends but something was different. My 7-year-older brother loved heavy metal and Samantha fox, I did not.

As a teen we moved from a small village to the city of Brussels and that was the beginning of my new life. I realized I liked boys, it was pretty clear when I was more looking forward to seeing my girlfriend’s brother instead of her.

I came out to my loved ones when I was about 17 years of age. Everyone was totally fine with it (or they did a great job in hiding it from me).

The only concern my mom had was that I would never have children and that made her sad because she knew how much I loved kids. Fast forward 20 odd years and look who’s going to be a nana.

I work as a Product manager at Telenet, one of Belgium’s biggest cable/mobile operators. My job consists of selecting the mobile accessories portfolio for about 100 retail stores. It’s a challenging job sometimes, but it has to be one of the coolest companies in Belgium to work for, I get to visit several international fairs like for example MWC in Barcelona, IFA in Berlin,… and I can honestly say I love my job.

Friends & Family

I love my entire family, but my mom has to be the best mom in the world. She is the kindest most lovable person I know. At first it was just my mom, dad, brother and me but over the years my family has extended with amazing stepparents a brother and sisters.

My BFF, better known as my brother from another mother is Reinoud. Not a day goes by that we don’t hear each other. His girlfriend Vanessa is Davy’s best friend. Their kids and them are part of our family. Daan and Kevin are our other besties. We have a select circle of close friends, but these are friends with whom we have gone through ups and downs and who we love dearly.

Godfather

The day my brother asked if I would be the godfather of his baby was such a special moment. Ben is now an exceptional young boy (teen). I couldn’t be prouder of him. Friendly, open minded, loves animals and is the best rugby player and surfer I know 🙂

Hobbies

In my free time I like being outdoors as much as possible. Be it just relaxing in our garden or actually doing some gardening, taking care of the chickens or playing with our dogs. Going for walks training for the next 100km Death March or going for a ride on my bicycle. Together with Daan & Kevin we discovered the joy of escape rooms. The four of us form a winning team!

Travel

I love traveling. In the past I have been to The States, Thailand, South Africa and all over Europe. Barcelona and Paris are my favourite cities, they feel like home. There are too many to list them up here, but I can say living in the center of Europe is great.

Disney

My guilty pleasure is Disney. I am a huge Disney fan, It’s a good thing we (only) live a 3 hour drive from Disneyland Paris. Not too far to visit regularly, but too far to go every weekend. I have had an annual pass for quite some years now and love making the best of it by not just visiting the parks, but also going to the exclusive events for the passholders.
