Receiving a popup on our phone showing that Adoptiehuis is giving us a call made our heart skip a beat or maybe even two! 😁

The bad news is that it wasn’t to let us know they found a match.
The good news is that they wanted to let us know we’ve entered the top 5 on the waiting list and we need to be prepared to get THE call. 😳

TOP 5

The lady on the phone was pleased to tell us that we’ve entered the top 5 and that it’s standard procedure to give the parents to be a call to make sure everything is ready.
They want to make sure the following things have been prepared and are available:

  • Maxi Cosi
  • Medical Insurance
  • Babyroom
  • Daycare

Off course we’ve got everything sorted out. We even got our sugar beans and our birth list available and ready to go. The sugar beans are a traditional Belgian treat given to family and friends to celebrate the birth of your child.

Keep in mind that it’s not mandatory to be at number 1 to be the next in line receiving your baby. One of the basic principles of adoption is that the best parents are matched to the specific needs of a child.
The match is made based on the following parameters:

  • distance of the birthmother to the adoptive parents
  • direct placement vs. foster care
  • agelimit of the adoptive parents
  • special needs of the child
  • specific wishes of the birthmother (religion, baptising, siblings, sexual orientation,…)

So it’s possible that the next baby is ours, but it’s also possible that in a certain amount of time we arrive at number one and are still waiting. Let’s hope it’s the first. 🤞🤞🤞
